MAUI ORCHID SOCIETY

July 2010

President’s Message

Aloha all –

What a great June meeting we had - many thanks to Dan Judson of Orchids of Olinda for a truly terrific presentation. He is both knowledgeable and very funny – a great combination in a speaker. I really enjoyed hearing Dan and from the feedback received, I know many others felt the same way. Reminder - we will be back in familiar territory at Wailuku Community Center for the July 20th meeting.

Big news – Saturday, August 7th is the nursery tour. This annual event is extremely popular with our members – and well it should be. The tour offers the rare opportunity to visit the greenhouses of Maui’s best growers. One can learn so much from seeing their growing techniques and asking questions. Not to mention the chance to acquire great plants…

Randy Tajima, esteemed AOS judge from Oahu, will be our guest speaker for the July meeting. Randy will share his expertise on Phalaenopsis with the club and I am looking forward to his suggestions on how to best grow these lovely plants.  In addition we will have a representative from MISC to give a presentation on fire ants- an important and timely topic for all of us on Maui.

Look forward to seeing you all at the meeting!

Victoria Cheromcka - president
